John Melius


   John Melius began turning wood in August of 2003, studying under the auspices of professionals Alan Hollar and Roger Jacobs. In August, 2008, John was Assistant Instructor with Alan Hollar for two classes at the John C. Campbell Folk Art School. John will again assist Alan Hollar in January, 2011. From a "mini" lathe, John's shop has grown to five modern lathes with the capacity of handling pieces up to 24 inches wide and 42 inches long.

   John's work has won numerous awards and is on display in various galleries in North Carolina and Virginia. He is a member of the American Association of Woodturners and is a past president of the North Carolina Woodturners Association. John has been featured in articles in the Charlotte Observer and 'Baby Boomer' Magazine.

   John's work can often be seen at several art shows in the Mooresville, NC area. The most popular show is the Lakeside Artists Studio Tour which is held in October around the greater Lake Norman area.
